Privacy Policy

BetterInEurope.eu is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (almost none) and how we handle it.

Data controller

The data controller for this website is Luna BV, contactable at info@betterineurope.eu.

What personal data do we collect?

Almost none. We collect minimal data and do not identify, profile, or track visitors. Specifically:

  • We do not use cookies (no tracking, advertising, or functional cookies)
  • We do not use fingerprinting or any other identification technology
  • We do not have user accounts, contact forms, or newsletters
  • We do not use any third-party advertising or marketing services

Because we do not use cookies or tracking technologies, no cookie consent banner is required on this website.

Server logs

Like virtually all web servers, ours automatically records IP addresses in server access logs for security and operational purposes (e.g., detecting attacks, diagnosing errors). These logs are automatically rotated and deleted after 14 days. IP addresses in server logs are never used for analytics, tracking, or profiling, and are never shared with third parties.

Legal basis

For server logs containing IP addresses, our legal basis is legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically, the security and reliable operation of this website. Logs are retained for no longer than necessary (14 days) in accordance with the storage limitation principle (Art. 5(1)(e) GDPR).

For the anonymous, aggregated analytics we collect (see below), our legal basis is also legitimate interest — specifically, our interest in understanding how our content performs in order to improve it. Since Plausible Analytics does not process any personal data, this does not impact visitors' rights or freedoms.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, European analytics service.

Provider: Plausible Insights OÜ (Estonia, EU)

Data processing location: Falkenstein, Germany (EU-owned infrastructure by Hetzner)

Data collected: Aggregated, anonymous page views, referral sources, country (derived from timezone, not IP), browser type, and device type

Personal data: None — no IP addresses, no cookies, no device fingerprints

Data retention: Aggregated data retained for the duration of our subscription

Open source: Yes — source code on GitHub

Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track visitors across sites or devices. It is compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR by design.

Do Not Track (DNT) & Global Privacy Control (GPC)

This site does not track individual visitors, use cookies, or build user profiles — so the protections requested by DNT and GPC signals are already provided by default. Plausible Analytics does not read or act on DNT/GPC signals because it does not perform any of the tracking those signals are designed to prevent.

Hosting & Infrastructure

This website is hosted on European infrastructure:

  • Server: Scaleway (Iliad Group, France, EU)
  • Domain registrar: European provider
  • Fonts: Bunny Fonts (bunny.net, European CDN). GDPR-compliant, zero tracking, no logging. All font files are served from European servers.

No public visitor data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The site's content management system (used only by editors, not visitors) loads its interface from a US-hosted CDN (unpkg.com).

Affiliate Disclosure

This website currently does not contain affiliate links. We receive no commission, payment, or other compensation for the products and services mentioned on this site.

Our recommendations are based solely on our assessment of quality, privacy, European origin, and value for users.

Should we introduce affiliate links in the future, they will be clearly marked as such, and this policy will be updated accordingly. Affiliate relationships will never influence our editorial recommendations.
